Default Trout Fisherman - New Format

Just arrived on my mat today. Just had a quick squint through and so far impressions are favourable. Any one else had a look yet?

I've had a quick look through, seems good to me. Will have a proper digest later!

Worse, it's about Irish fishermen going to the gym

Also packed with advertorials for the new "ultra limp" Ridge Airflo floater. Yeah, right

I can recommend going to the gym.......two words....."Rik Waller".

"Ultra limp" airflo floater.........I'll have two please.

Loosely translated........"**** me, the Polish guy we employed on £8 a week to man the line tower has cooked these lines and they're like spaghetti, let's sell them as "ultra limp" floaters........."

I've already written to the editor cos I think it's garbage. A dogs breakfast of a layout, much less useful content (unless you want to go the gym) and absolutely deluged in commercial tie ins and advertorials - some of which are difficult to distinguish from the 'proper' content.
I have always stuck with TF because I used to get the odd useful nugget of information or fly pattern and because I thought it was good to support a publication that could be bringing newcomers in to our sport.
But quite how anyone - experienced or beginner - can find their way round the new design is beyond me.
Perhaps it's just that I'm turning in to a grumpy old man!

yep, i'd agree its a total shambles. i've subscribed for years & enjoyed the mag but this issue might be the last...whats with the CAPITALS everywhere, how many fonts per page (and how many colors), no flow to the layouts...?

Its everything i learned not to do at design when i was at college.

And as for dumping the rainbow font on the front page - have we not heard of 'brand' - the name of the mag is the only bit you see on a newsagents shelf.

disappointed to say the least

Apart from Trout Fisherman and sister magazine Trout and Salmon what else is there out there?

These are the only two I might be lucky enough to find in a main Newsagents or Tesco but no others.

You go into a fishing store in the States or South Africa and there is every single publication for sale including a few international glossies too. Why not here?

Perhaps because most tackle stores in my area of Essex cater for the 'boilie basher' and not the 'fluff chucker'

I may have to go a-searchin on the internet and take out a subscription to some other periodicals.....
