Default Cumbria’s first ‘Festival of Fishing’ May 16th - now ready to roll

At long last we’re ready to roll with this.

Please check out the website at www.gofishinglakedistrict.co.uk and get yourselves up here!

And should anyone doubt our claims about the wonderful fishing we have in Cumbria, they might like to watch this

More in due course.

David

This looks like a great and a well planned week!

Just a couple of questions out of curiosity if I may.

Firstly, is this a commercially led event or is it funded/organised by the tourist authorities?

Secondly (and I stress, I am no way related), but as a Lake District event, why do we have people like Charles Jardine doing demonstrations when there are people like Lee Cummings in the area who is, well, erm, first class?? and from the area.

Anyway; well done for pulling this together, it looks great! and to anyone visiting during the week, do yourself a favour and book a one-to-one with Lee!

Nice vid! I know one or two people on here who will be able to identify the exact place it was filmed. Home to large grayling and a cracking summer evening spinner-fall pool. A bit naughty though, as it looks to me like one of the lads is fishing below the bottom limit on a couple of shots....!

Thanks Mr Fish for your kind words.

As for Charles J, his time has been generously donated by Hardy Greys, along with that of Jeremy Lucas and Clive Mitchelhill. We've also got Stuart Broadhurst and Tony Riley on board. We have tried to keep the thing as local as possible, and in a perfect world would have had Paul Procter who's written more about Cumbrian trout fishing than almost anyone, and Geoff Johnson, too. But both were otherwise occupied during the key week.

Charles J is a nice guy and popular too, and has always enjoyed his visits here, and I wouldn't think for a minute of sacrificing him just to be more 'ethnically' Cumbrian!.

We've put the festival togetrher with support from the Cumbrian tourism people, the EA, Windermere, Ambleside and District AA, and the goodwill of sundry other folk. BUT we are making small charges for a number of events, not least to ensure that people who book on feel an obligation to attend. You could say it's to add more 'perceived value'.
