Default platinum XD V Platinum XD Competitor

Sorry for another vague question

I've asked this in a couple of shops with varying results probably in the hope of them getting my wallet out of my pocket.

I've used a friends 10' 7# Platinum XD which i get on great with i've found a local shop that still has 2 and he wants £195.00 for it.
my conundrum is i've been into another shop who is offering the new XD competitor for £199 with a free greys GTX reel.

Is the competitor the same blank??? i know the handles are different and finish
If not is it more/less powerfull????

As said previously i'd like the older model as that is what i've used and am happy with, but the guy won't budge on price or cut a deal if i'm buying a reel.
And i can't try the XD Competitor as they don't have the facilities!!! aaarrrggghhhh

if anyone can shed any impartial advice i'd appreciate it

john

HI Mate.
Yeah they say the XD Comp is the same blank. i have not tried one but cant see it being that much different. Perhaps the handle will change it???
Far better off getting a new XD Comp coz you will get the warrenty aswell!

You should be able to pick up a platinum xd for around £150 brand new mate, they are selling them off at the moment - just google it and spend a bit of time searching, you could save a few quid. - try Grommit on this forum, he may have what you need.

I think the the 2 biggest differences between the 2 are the handle and the overall weight - the competition special being the heavier.

I picked up a Platinum XD 10' #7 couple of weeks ago from Anglers Choice in Dundee. Was just over £150 as I recall. Might be worth giving them a call Robbie / Paul should be able to help you out.
I had a look at the comp model whilst I was in (and also had a swing about with it outside), as has already been said the handle and finish are different. The old XD is lighter too and I also felt that it had a faster (tip) action) which is what I was looking for.
Have been using it with #8 lines and am loving it!
