Default Fishing Licence - Ripped Off

Now, perhaps one should have known better but I visited the Post Office in Eastcheap St, London and asked to purchase a new annual fishing licence.

The lady said 'No problem' took my money and told me it would be posted out shortly and be with me within a few days (it was Monday)

now, it arrived two weeks later and was only listed as lasting for a month or so!!!!! £25 down the drain

How the HELL can the bl**dy thing only last with a set period and not on a rolling basis as and when someone purchases one!?

And how the HELL can the silly cow sell me one advising me that it would last for a 12 month period from date of purchase.

The Environment Agency are useless as I sent them an email last week and the confirmation reply advises you that they take 10 working days to respond.

They should all be flogged and hung drawn and quartered.........and then keel-hauled for good measure.

If you buy via the website you get a choice of this year's or the one from April 1st.

My guess is the lady in the PO did not offer you that choice and just sold you a current one. They should be able to unscramble it though, hopefully.

They all run April-March, not a rolling 12 months.

I've never heard of a case where the post office have taken your licence fee and then said that the licence will be posted to you.

Apparently it's a new system cos a photo is needed and it has to be sent on to the EA or summat . Probably gets laminated as well.

Probably cos that's what she believes ( albeit wrongly) . It would make more sense for it to be 12 months from when you take it out .

More sense but less money, as always getting as much cash out you as poss seems to come first.

you dont need a photo but it is a new credit card "style" licence.
although a pretty poor attempt at it.
its more a plasticised paper than an actual "credit card" style.
still a great improvment on the old style licence though.

Its crafty because if you buy a new licence on the interweb at the minute the default check box is for one that runs out on March 31st - which needed a good few times of checking over the form till I got the right one.

I posted this on the other EA thread.... but may be more appropriate here!!

"Blimey I've read this thread which was mind numbing to say the least!!

I renewed my licence which was a coarse one and I upgraded online to a Salmon one... bit of a hike but I'll be off looking for some silver tourists so............

It was dead easy to pay on line and I got my receipt and waited with bated breath for el postie!

El postie arrived on Saturday... what did I get? A new style licence?

Yes, BUT FFS I got a coarse licence!!!

My conversation with the Rod Licence Team was errrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... interesting to say the least...

like "just use the online receipt" which is A4 FFS...

or "send it back and we'll send you a new one".

I did ask if they would refund the postage etc... as it wasn't my mistake.... I then had a bright idea and asked him to check my details from the licence number...

Guess what? I'm not on the system... it hasn't been updated (the new licence was issued 8/3!!)

The source of some annoyance!!!"

And they didn't ring me back... as they promised!
