Default Amazing

Today i witnessed one of the most amazing sights i have ever seen.

While speaking to Robert Murray on the Tweed this afternoon i spoted a kingfisher flying upstream, I said to Robert there goes a kingfisher over by that croy, we both watched the bird flying when, out of nowhere a falcon (i think it was a Peregrine) swooped down onto the kingfisher, there was a splash and the falcon shot staight upwards gaining hieght very quickly, then from the water the kingfisher emerged and started flying downstream back towards us. Once agian the falcon swooped down and another splash this time no kingfisher but watching the falcon it was not in it's talons.

All this happened about 100 yards from us and was very clear, i have not seen many kingfishers (maybe they attract birds of prey with thier bright colours) or Peregrine falcons let alone one tackling a kinfisher.

I've said it before, usually to non-anglers, that if we weren't fishing then we wouldn't be in such beautiful places seeing such beautiful things. We are privileged!

Do you think t might have been a sparrowhawk? I've seen them chase kingfishers around here on a couple of occasions.....

looking out my front window, a wood pigeon dropped into a swoop off the telephone wires and exploded with feathers everywhere as a sparrow hawk hit it at 100mph, the pigeon dropped like a stone and the hawk which was about half the size of it was on it like a cat, it then dragged it into a corner wings still flapping and scoffed most of it right at the road side.
