Red face Instinctively, you know this is 'not good.'

Fishing the upper Rogue River earlier this PM and 'just knew' my Yellow Lab (Sandy) was walking behind me on the beach. Shxt!! Pulled the 'anchor' on my cast and drove a 2/0 heavy wire hook into his chest. Forward cast (and where he got 'stuck') was hard enough to snap 10# Maxima leader.

Buried the damned thing into his chest.

"SANDY, COME HERE!!! NOW!!"

He did, took him by the dog tag collar and pulled off my forceps hooked to my shirt and 'ripped' the damned thing out of him. He 'jerked back,' as expected, but not even a yelp out of him.

Day gone to hell; love my Puppy. Wouldn't consider hurting him, even with a gun to my head. Brave Pup.

Default Poor 'Sandy'

Is there not a single hook point barbless rule on the Rogue river?

http://www.dfw.state.or.us/fish/docs...shing_regs.pdf

It also says: "barbless hooks are strongly advised unless specifically required".

A labrador will remain faithfull regardless of pain, but barbless hooks come out of fish, humans, children.....and dogs really easily,

could get a lab report just in case

Ok stop giving people a hard time I certainly wouldn't like to try and take a hook out a dog.

Anyway hows the dog now probably sleeping or eating none the worse for wear.

I once had a lady and her daughter walk thier Lab past me while trying to select what fly I was going to use. My rod was on the bank and the dog got caught up in the line I quickly shouted to them (not at them) that the dog had picked up the line which they were denying.

Little did they know I just didn't want my fly buried into thier dog but eventually they believed me and got the line untangled.

'Scuse us for breathing. It was the OP who said he "ripped" the hook out .
