Default Ultra Violet

A mate of mine loaned me an ultra violet light today and I tried looking at my flies with it. Well, I was quite amazed at how bright some of the materials glowed - really much brighter than I had expected.

However, although this proves that some flies react to U V light, I still feel that there is a question about the way trout react to them.

Is there any evidence that U V reactive materials attract trout, and if so, is it only under certain conditions - e.g. deep water?

If I remember a previous thread correctly on this subject, the theory is that juvenile trout retina have the receptors for detecting UV light but adult trout retina do not.
Flies incorporating UV properties absorb the UV light and retransmit the energy back through trouts visible spectrum (similar to our own).

Sorry if I'm plagiarising somebodies words but it went something like that anyway.

Cheers
