Question Whish leader to use to get a proper turnover

this will be my 3rd season fishing i,ve heard all sorts of talk about leaders some people use 10/15 ft leaders ? personaly I tie up a cast with two wet flies. theres aprox 60/65 cm between 1st fly and droper then aprox 7ft of nylon. should this turn over ok ? Or should I taper the nylon down ie 8lbs to 6lbs to the 4lbs i tie my cast with. ? Or should it be the same right through ? Or should I use longer leader and taper it ? thanks for any help Alan.

It depends on the flies you're using and how good your casting style is. A level leader of that length with a single heavy-ish fly (read as a gold head or well weighted nymph or lure) on the point should turn over ok in just about everything but the most extreme of windy conditions, even with a lightweight dropper. A tiny nymph on point and another on the dropper, or if you're using a particularly unaerodynamic patterns and you'll probably struggle with a level leader and need to add some taper to the cast.

I can't think of a single instance where having a tapered leader would harm your presentation. That's not to say there isn't one, it's just I don't know what it would be

I'm quite certain too, that there are people who can cast a level leader of 15 or 20 feet using unweighted flies in the stiffest of oncoming breezes. Sadly I'm not one of them

This subject has come up before and 'over here' we'll put the light fly at the end and the 'feather brick' as the upper one.

Yep - that'll work, but again it will depend on how well you cast. Some of the stillwater specialists over here are using leaders significantly longer in feet than I can cast in yards
