Default Usk canoes

Hi, I was fishing the usk approx 1.5miles downstream from sennybridge on Saturday. A fleet of canoes came past me at about 2pm. The river is 25-30ft wide here, it was very low and it seems the date was outside of the designated ‘canoe season’. I don’t have a problem with canoes, they use the river when I am not using it. I do have a problem with canoes when they deliberately break any prearranged agreement and spoil my enjoyment.

I have fished here for a number of years and have not witnessed canoes breaking the rules before.

Default Usk Canoes.

Totsy,

What time of the day did they come through and how many canoeists were there? I've had problems with one or two in the past ( between Aberbran and Brecon) generally most are sympathetic to the fishermen; some can be a pain in the **** on occasion. Sunday seems to be the worst day for them.
I haven't been out on the Usk yet, how was it fishing?

You should report it on the WUF website "there", as others have done.

Hi.

The problem is that some canoeists do not recognise the right of the WUF to dispense "in and out points", and see it as their right to paddle. After all, the river is owned by us all.

As a sometime canoeist myself I had some heated discussions on www.songofthepaddle.co.uk about this. While most canoeists are sensible, there are a few militant ones for whom common sense and good manners mean nothing.
See also the article about canoeing on the Wye Gillies Association website at http://www.rwga.co.uk/
