I fished my local resevoir this morning trying all sorts of depths to find the fish. When i changed my line to a slow intermediate i had trouble to get the line to sink, it was floating better than my floating line, ha! Any ideas what can be done to solve the problem?

First of all welcome to the forum.

I had a similar problem last week when I cleaned my line with Armoral Dashboard wipes and I asked this question too. The advice I got was to clean the line with a mild soapy water. I also heard that if you leave your line in water over night it should start to sink straight away when you start fishing. I havn't tried any of these yet. Here is the link of my Thread:

I once cleaned a intermediate line with son of a gun on a cloth and within a few weeks it was all cracked. I don't think cleaning sinking lines with any thing other than soapy water is a good idea.

The snowbee line degreaser is very good for intermediate/sinking lines.

Seems to take any grease off and gets them under.

i had exactly same problem with a cortland intermediate camo.

the reply from cortland was to wipe line through a damp cloth with fairy liquid.
i washed it in fairy liquid then wiped it through . works a treat now

never use anything other than soapy water to clean a sinker or intermediete you will just put a coat of silicone on it and make it float even more i found out by making the same mistake , you dont say what make of line your having trouble with some of the cheaper makes never sink quite right also they hold a lot of memory a no no for sinking lines ,it would be a good idea to gently take the coils [kinks ]out of it by pulling the whole line out onto the feild ,pull it threw your fingers so it spins then do it again you will find that it helps [a straighter line will sink better]

Back in the early seventies we were sold the kelly green intermediate as the do anything line , grease it and it floated ,degrease it and it would sink .
well it did sortof ,but not very well !
I always carried a small bottle of fairy liquid and a rag to wipe the inter down to make it sink ,then they were great lines for presenting a slowly fished lure at a variety of depths .
had a couple of seasons where the kelly green and a green backed baby doll caught 90% of my fish (well over the ton in numbers),would hate to do it again !

As has been said, don't clean sinking lines with anything silicon based. I've also found old intermediates to often be better than new ones because after a bit of wear and tear they naturally sink better. In fact I don't bother cleaning them at all other than a wipe down to remove mud and grit.

The line i've got is an airflo sixth sense. I will try cleaning it in soapy water by the next time i go. Will post the result.
