Default Sos >>>>???

Hi folks.. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if SOS, or saveoursea is still active here in Ireland? From looking at their website (below) it seems that it hasn't been updated in a wee while..

I'm from the west of Ireland and looking out at a salmon farm from the living room and i'm interested in knowing whether the problems relating to sea lice, fish farms, etc is still a major issue, or if there have been any recent studies, reports etc.

cheers
John

It's an even bigger issue now as the lice seem to be becoming resistant to the treatment ''slice''

I didn't realize that the lice were becoming resistant to treatment..

I had heard over the past season that the numbers of sea trout in a couple of our local systems had been increasing, but dont know that there is any scientific evidence to prove this, except that more sea trout have been caught....

Does anyone know about the SOS campaign??

Peter Mantle at Delphi was the driving force behind SOS, maybe you could contact him to see what the present situation is? Look like Delphi and Erriff might have a good seatrout season this year as the Killary farm is currently empty

More here

Thanks Shuck Raider.. I think it will be another year or two before trout/salmon stocks will begin to increase in numbers because the killary farm is empty.. hopefully the farm will stay empty...... give the fish a chance....

So anyone else know anything about SOS?? On their website they have annual membership for 30 euros per year... and you get a monthly newsletter... are these still published? I would be a bit wary of paying membership when i have heard nothing about SOS for a while...

I have emailed their contact email address. . action@saveourseatrout.com
no reply in the past couple of days...

lets hope they are still active, as the salmon farms in the estuary ballinahinch fishery are now reopening.... which will no doubt destroy the seatrout fishery as it has done in the past......

JJ, you could try contacting Simon Ashe at Ballynahinch Castle or Colin Folan at Lough Inagh Lodge. They might have some information on that organisation.
