Default Backing To Fly Line Connection:Hmmm

I have lines on several spools and all are tied with nail knots . This morning I got a new line a WF3 and was putting it on a spool . I did my usual thing .Put the line on the spool( reversed) then attached the backing but for some reason probably beacuse I saw a thread in here recently suggesting using a braided loop so as one came with the line I just used that . I did what I have done with braided loops before and pushed the fly line right up inside then pulled the tubing down over the join . As usual it seemed perfectly secure . I then finished spooling the line and backing .

I then had to respool it on to another spool and blow me down ...when it got to the braided loop it came apart .

HTF did that happen I asked myself . I am certain I fitted it correctly ....anyway I went back to my usual nail knot . It's got me wondering about the other lines with braided loops on the "business" end .

Any ideas guys ?

I never use a braided loop without the added security of a couple of drops of Superglue.

At least yours broke at home rather than with a whopper tearing up the lake and seeing the whole line disappear out of the top ring, as happened to me at Lechlade last year.
Since then I have gone back to nail knotting the backing on all my lines.
If you do use braided loops then do be sure to put a spot of superglue at each end of the sleeve - it only needs a very small amount.

Nail knot every time,

I normally give it a coat of aquasure and roll in into the knot to smooth it out.

Depends on how slim your line is as to how effective braided loops are.

I don't use them on fast and extra fast sinkers as they just slide off again, regardless of how many "spots" of superglue I use.

I did wonder if the "thinness" of the reel end of the line had some effect on the efficacy of the braided loop but as it's a WF line I'm assuming it's the usual thickness as the others .

It makes a difference what type /make of loops they are as well.

Some loops are shocking.

The best loops by a country mile are Roman Moser Minicon's.

I tend not to use sleeves but use tying thread to whip on and cover in Aquasure and superglue

Well on the business end I used a braided loop but as you suggested whipped it with thread .I didn't have any aquasure ( is that for wader leaks?)
so used a wee drop epoxy to smooth the joint over and it looks good ....might even do that with the business end loops of my other lines after what happened earlier .
