Default Shropshire region River Fishing

Hello fellow fisherman widow makers. Thought I'd put a thread on to see if I can glean any info.
I'm spending a w.end end of April very near to Shrewsbury and would love to take my rods.
I'm looking for a nice bit of river trouting say within a 40 mile radius of Shrewsbury if there is any.
If anyone can let me have any details of where I can fish on a day basis, I'd love to hear.

Suggest you send a PM to Birdsnest, who lives in Wolverhampton and fishes in Shropshire. He's a top guy, very helpful and answered a similar question from me a while ago.

Not sure about Shropshire itself, outside of rivers controlled by clubs, but Shrewsbury is only 37 miles from the Upper Severn (http://www.caersws-aa.co.uk/) or 29 miles from the Dee at Llangollen (google Llangollen AA or Maelor AA - which is a little closer with tickets from Cefn Mawr).

I did think of the Upper Severn but you've given me food for thought with Llangollen. I've fished the area many years ago and loved it. As its only 29 miles away I think I'll do some investigative work. Cheers Kev.

Kev, thanks a million for the info esp of Llangollen and Maelor Associations. They both look really good and I think my son and I will dip our rods over there within the next few months. Can I ask you if you fish these Ass. waters and if so have you any locality preference or particular beats that you'd recommend. We would prob go in May or June.

I've only fished those two clubs on day tickets, and then for the big grayling over winter months so can't tell you much about the trout. I'm a member of Corwen and District AC for The Dee further upstream, but rarely get there either (but rate it as some of the best grayling water in the UK and well worth the money for membership). Last time I fished Maelor you could get day tickets from either the Country Park or from the bike shop at Cefn Mawr, and I fished downstream of the first aquaduct.
