Default Them and Us?

Has anyone ever watched and listened to the way some bait fisherman carry on mostly at fisheries but some on rivers aswell?

What I would call typical townies no offence meant to anyone here.

LM,

Would they be the ones who turn up with the seats, tinnies, and loud hailers?

I know Lewis, not only do they bait fish, but i'm sure some of them also wear tracksuits, gold jewellery and claim benefits, as well as shopping at Lidl and mugging the odd granny for glue money.

AAAH so its not just me.

What about this one then I go fishing with my uncle on the bait pond at a local fishery about 2/3 times a year he like to fish with bait but I like fly but I fish the fly on the bait pond and I have seen this loads of times one person catches a fish and everyone surrounds you floats and lines over yours etc etc.

Another quick story me and my brother go to a favorite spot of ours on the river and have been fishing hard for 3/4 hours with no fish. I am persevering in a spot I know holds fish and to my disbelief along comes 2 bait fisherman and they setup a matter of feet from me. But I says F**k it I aint moving now if like any normal person had came up and fished another part a little further away I would have happily fished the pool then moved on and gave them a chance. But I stayed more determined to catch than ever I saw a fish rise in a very hard to fish pool as there is quite fast water in the middle and a very slow pool on the other bank so drag is a big problem.

Anways I cast my fly out to the rising fish on the opposite bank gets a lot of slack line up stream and within 5 seconds hooks a small but well deserved 6/7 inch brownie. Needless to say they got fedup first and went home empty handed.

By the way I used to bait fish a lot but never carried on like these idiots.

Must be bait fishermen north of the border - perhaps they are just wannabe fly anglers. No such hang ups in my neck of the woods (he says, speaking as someone who does both). I've encountered just as many idiots wielding a fly rod as wielding a coarse fishing rod.

I am not saying they are all the same infact I have met a lot of nice bait fisherman when fly fishing on the bait pond there are plenty come and ask questions. Especially when I have a full bag and they don't.

I still bait fish for coarse fish and sea fish but just prefer the fly for trout seatrout and salmon. Not that I do much of the latter.
