Default Scottish and irish wets on english reservoirs

I love tying up the traditional patterns that i see on here, such as dabblers and bumbles. But what i want to know is will they work on places like carsington and eyebrook? If so can anyone suggest some teams that will work together and their positions on the cast.

About ten (maybe more) years ago had a great day on Carsington with ACW fishing Green Peter Muddler and Claret Bumble on intermediate lines. That was before rainbow introductions.

Yes they work, one of my favouruite casts for Ladybower, was a Black Pennel on the point, a Gold Butcher on the centre and a Claret Bumble on the top dropper. Make the bumble dance as you lift the flies from the water, better still I used to gink mine up, makes a little bit of a wake as you draw your flies towards the boat. Remember to hang the bumble until the very last moment, you'll be surprised just how many fish strike before you left off.
(all on a floater too.....just wait until it warms up a little)

Hi Russ,

A group of us from Scotland where down fishing Rutland, Graftham and Eyebrook last September, we all had fish on Black and Claret Dabblers, broonies and rainbows! Some of the most immaculate rainbow trout I have seen and I have caught and seen wild rainbows. Very impressed, you southerners have it good down there

Short pulls, figure of eight, they all work given the conditions. It's all too often nowadays that people seem to avoid using older more traditional patterns, opting for an orange blob or whatever is the current vogue. The old patterns still work and well too!

I find that a black or claret snatcher works well on Grafham and Rutland when the fish are up. Don't see why they shouldn't work on Eyebrook and Carsington as well.

Im just after a change from throwing lumps of fritz and marabou around(although its bloody good fun!)You cant beat catching on your own flies and the traditional patterns are more of a challenge to tie up.
