Default Overlining question

Afternoon

I have a 3/4 wt rod which I plan to use for the first time tomorrow. However I do not have a 4 wt line and nowhere near me sells one. Would putting a 5 wt line on cause any significant issues?

Thanks

Depends on the rod. If it's a fast modern rod, probably not, but there are some which are true to weight and it would overload the rod except in close in situations. What is the make and model?

It is an Airflo Streamtrec. I am fishing a small river so casting wont be at any great distance - no more than 10 metres i would not imagine

The rod will be fine.

I've seen a 12 weight tarpon line cast on a 7ft 3 weight brook rod and it did'nt break.

The mandate was ......"See if you can break the rod", Paul Arden couldnt do it, despite it bending like a rubber band.

Make you wonder how you actually can break a rod, if it wasn't some inherent build fault or stupidity like slamming it in a car door. Must have felt like sh1t though, casting that 12wt on that twig?
I remember my first graphite rod eons ago was one of Shakespeare's famous "Ulgly Stik" rods. They had a campaign which showed the rod being bent in a complete U touching the tip to the butt end and running it over with trucks etc.

will not harm the rod but the cast will be limited, the rod will struggle to flick out........if its a 3/4 with the aftm 30' beyond the rod tip its going to be about a 4/5 at about 20' should be balanced about there, when you go beyond 50' things might get a bit spongy.

If there is a defect in the blank, it wil usually break within the first few casts.

A gold head hitting the blank, or a strike off a wall or tree can cause the rod to break at a later date too..
