Default Elinor tomorrow..

After reading all of the positive reports about the start of the season at Elinor I am glad to be off work tomorrow so that I can take a drive down and do a bit of fishing! I just hope I don't blank again like the last time I was out! Any last minute tips or advice welcome!

I will let you all know how I get on....

Jimmy.

I am actually going tomorrow, as in Friday, so if anyone else is up there or fancies joining me come and say hello.

Well, I went to Elinor today as planned.. and got a great big - BLANK. My second time out this year and my second blank this year, two in a row so I'm not a happy bunny! I know blanking is part of fishing and its bound to happen from time to time but it did annoy the hell out of me. One thing I've learnt is not to share a car anymore as it makes things awkward if you want to pack up early while the other person wants to keep fishing!

But for those of you that might need to know, Some people did catch and they were mainly on a Black and Green, Egg fly, Montana. The water was very cloudy. I did get two on the hook but lost them both and only realised later that the fly my friend let me use was a barbless hook which I've not used before so perhaps if they were barbed I may have caught the two!?

Oh well, better luck next time I hope!!!!

Yep, he bagged up which was what made it so frustrating! He caught his first fish on his first cast at 7am which really made me mad! lol

I am sure all of us have had the same experience, Jimmy. It's why our sport is called "fishing" and not "catching".....

You may have opened a can of worms there, but using barbless for river trouting, grayling fishing with fly and bait, and coarse fishing, in all 3 disciplines c'n'r is damned near 100%, I'd say "don't believe it". Barbless stay in just as well as barbed.

I will be there tomorrow - Saturday - and will be hoping not to repeat Jimmy's blank.
But as others have said, a blank is just another part of fishings rich tapestry and should always be looked upon as a learning opportunity.
You can learn more from a blank session - experimenting yourself, watching and talking to others - than if they are crawling up your rod from the first cast.
Good luck to anybody else who will be there tomorrow.

It was actually quite hard today and I only had two by lunchtime, so I advised Jimmy by text not to try for a repeat........................but I did end up with nine Casting and fishing were tricky, though.

It was totally different from last Saturday, water clearing and fish spooking more easily after teh angling pressure. Blobs got follows mainly and just those first two fish. Best method was a small unweighted black and green lure on the point with a couple of diawl bachs above it. I also caught two on buzzers about five feet under the bung.

I caught five fish in the East arm - top left corner and four just to the right of Pensioners Point. The far side, opposite the boats, apparently also had quite a few fish on it.
