I don't really think we should have to pay for a rod licence...you don’t in Scotland and I think their water systems are every bit as good as those in England & Wale (if not better)

We all ready pay for a day/season ticket so why should we pay for a rod licence just to hold a rod?? It’s not like a shotgun cert. Where you have a visit from the firearms officer and there is an obvious need for control and traceability so costs are involved, to me it’s just a money making exercise.

Rather than bringing new anglers into the sport I think this unnecessary cost will just put them off?

I accept that any income is” ring fenced”, with profits ploughed back into conservation and restocking etc…but I’m not convinced the average angler ever see's the benefit
I have a fishing mate, and have had for many years, around 50 years, he's 96 and a bit of a lad, he says he's not getting a license this year , his excuse is
" What can they do to me, my rod is 40 years old, my line is ****, I only have 4 flies, I don't have a car, nothing at all to confiscate, no money, they can't give me life in the cooler, I've already had my life so they can't take that away, even if they give me the rest of my life in the cooler, I would welcome free board and lodgings."
I'm going to wait to see what happens, knowing him, he could possibly stick with it.......

I don't buy my licence on line, it is by direct debit from my bank account. I am aware that if you carry your old licence that in theory you can fish whilst awaiting delivery of the new, but would you be believed if challenged on the bank by a bailiff?

My point is that if you pay in advance the E A should have their system up to speed and ensure you have your licence BEFORE 1st April.

I don't know. The bailiffs can ring in to check license numbers and the system seems to be pretty up to date. I hear they will also have handheld devices soon. If there were any doubt, you would just be issued with a notice of violation and then the EA would investigate so you should have nothing to worry about.
