Use a cork sealant if you want it to remain clean a bit longer, and re-do every now and then. U-40 is available from H & H.

Makes the cork feel lovely and silky and offers better wet weather performance.

i met an angler who had kept the plastic on, condensation had got in between the plastic,and the cork was not in good condition,
always take it off.

definitly take it off. the cork will rot if you dont.i think a rod looks better in a used condition anyway
