Default Cheapskates day out....

Today I managed to wangle half an afternoon out fishing - so I threw some gear in the back of the car and trundled down to my favourite local stillwater.

Pleasant afternoon, and as I had no real need of fish, decided to play silly bu8gers.

Cheapest rod - a vantage 8' #4(£20) - teamed with an old Rimfly regular(Ebay £6) which had been fitted with a Norris Mill end (£4.99) - homebrewed knotted tapered leader and only home-tied barbless flies .

Had a cracking couple of hours - hooked and played four of which three were landed - biggest about 3.5 lbs and all on different flies.

Grand fun.

Downstream, I also have the vantage 8' #4. I've been using it on the small carp in my local pond, 6lb is the largest so far. Being a 4 piece they are easy to stash in the car boot for a quick fish anywhere.

Cheers, Dave.

If you had a sage rod and reel you could have caught 12 trout

Well done Downstream, just goes to show doesn't it.
Not selling my rods though, I am too much of a tackle tart now.

Sounds rather like my normal tackle ...... I've been using a Rimfly now for thirty years and can't see me changing now I even got another from Ebay, unused, just in case anything goes wrong with this one, but it seems to soldier on.

I may upgrade if I win the lottery but after this long, my old gear is just an extension of my arm, I've got used to how to fish with it. Mind you the rod is fairly new, I've only had that twenty years but I'm slowly getting used to it.
