Default I'm sick of hearing this!

I agree with what many users say about the cost of certain tackle being extortionate. But so what! I'm sorry, but get over it!
Fly fishing tackle has a lot of expensive stuff because traditionally, consumer demographics of those who fly fished were within the AB social classes. These manufacturers continue to target this market area as they know it is the market area the profits can be made.

In the 'viewpoint' section i never hear users complaining about the price of cars. Ferrari's, bugattis, Pagani's stretch into the hundreds of thousands of pounds but does anyone complain? No!

People aren't continually complaining and saying 'isn't it just stupid, why can't a normal bloke end up with a Bentley continental'
People recognise in the car world the exclusive cars, we don't complain about, we appreciate them even more because of the class. But the moment exclusive fishing tackle comes out we're immediately saying 'for crying out loud, hardy av jus made another £800 rod or would you believe it! Orvis have dared to sell a rod at £1300.' For those who are looking for affordable tackle, you shouldn't be looking at the top of the range stuff, you wouldn't go into a Ferrari dealership looking for a run around car?

I agree, spend what you want to spend and be happy with it.

Manufacturers have to make good margins to pay for the development (and marketing) of the next generation of products.

The most important thing is to enjoy your fishing, it does not matter if your rod cost more or less than the the guy next to you.

Some people would rather save up and buy Sage , Loomis etc , It does not make you a better angler having a £600 rod , As was said before on the forums buy what you like and be happy with it.

Some anglers get miffed because of rod prices but rods start at £50.00 and can go up to £1750 for an Edward Barder.

Pay your money and take your choice and forget what everyone else is buying.

My choice is to save up for quality fast action rods. (I am not a better angler for it)

Good Luck

Col

Hooray - common sense is beginning to prevail, I wish it had shown itself earlier - back to fishing now!

its not just fly tackle manufacturers that have extortionate prices.its right across the board.just look at some of the top range carp gear, pike gear etc etc.if people are going to buy the stuff, there will allways be a market for it!

I'm with you 100% ddave. I cannot understand why the fly fishing world (on this forum anyway) seems transfixed with what other people have. I couldn't give a damn what anyone else fishes with, so long as they enjoy it and treat the resource (the fish and habitat) properly.

I have posted several times that I'm ****** off with others having a go at people who buy expensive gear (it's never the other way round you'll notice...). I work hard for my money and will spend it how I choose, same as everyone else. Full stop.
