The Vyrnwy, Dyfi, upper Severn and upper Wye are not too far way.

The Dyfi at Dinnas Mallwyd is not THAT far up the A458. The Brigand's Inn, at the road junction, used to sell day-tickets, night tickets really.

I'm unsure of the situation for 2009 but their beat was noted as having regularly produced double figure sea trout in previous years. Well worth an exploratory trip.
Not far up the A458 is Llanerfyl and Llangadfan, where the Afon Gam joins the Banwy, another well worth fishing.
I'm not sure what time of year you are booked, I know the area fairly well from when I had a gun at Powis Castle - the shoot then taking in Llanfair Caireinion land; as I indicated in my message last night. I can put you in touch with the agent at Llangadfan.
Prince Albert Angling Society control a fair bit of
all the rivers mentioned. Perhaps worth joining their lengthy waiting list if its going to be an annual trip.
I must complement Mrs.Pimp on her excellent choice BTW.
