Default the Banwy ??

Hi
Mrs pimp is in the process of finding the venue for our hols this year... she has found a delightful cottage in a place called Llanfair caereinion (sp) that is on a stream ? and has fishing by arrangement on the Banwy... is it worth a punt ?? bit of local knowledge would go a long way...

Icky,
Llanfair is about 12 miles from me. Don't know much about the Banwy but give me a few days and I'll do my best to get as much info as possible.

Its not Beudy Dopebyll (sp??) is it? I stayed there a summer before last, oh I guess that's at Llangadffan (sp?) My Welsh ain't up to much, apologies. I know where you can get some good trout and grayling fishing on the Vrnwy for £2 a day which ain't far.

The Banwy at Llanfair Caereinion is a small to medium sized river with a good head of grayling, trout and coarse fish plus late salmon and a few sea trout. I'm not sure of day tickets etc., but there is a good pub meal to be had at the Goat Hotel.

The Vyrnwy, Dyfi, upper Severn and upper Wye are not too far way.

The Dyfi at Dinnas Mallwyd is not THAT far up the A458. The Brigand's Inn, at the road junction, used to sell day-tickets, night tickets really.
I'm unsure of the situation for 2009 but their beat was noted as having regularly produced double figure sea trout in previous years. Well worth an exploratory trip.

Not far up the A458 is Llanerfyl and Llangadfan, where the Afon Gam joins the Banwy, another well worth fishing.

I'm not sure what time of year you are booked, I know the area fairly well from when I had a gun at Powis Castle - the shoot then taking in Llanfair Caireinion land; as I indicated in my message last night. I can put you in touch with the agent at Llangadfan.
Prince Albert Angling Society control a fair bit of all the rivers mentioned. Perhaps worth joining their lengthy waiting list if its going to be an annual trip.

I must complement Mrs.Pimp on her excellent choice BTW.

It's a well kept secret within the PAAS that a surprising number of sea trout are taken from the Gam each season.
