Default loch awe

Me and the misses are planning on booking up a wee cabin at Dalavich on loch awe. You get free bank fishing with the deal. Has anybody fished this area from the bank or any advice on fly types would be great. It would be around the start of june we would be going.

Thanks in advance.

Nice part of the world , i will be there for opening day( 23rd year on a trot ) . As regarding the fishing in june i would mostly stick to early mornings and late evenings if fishing from the bank a cast of small black flies ie. bibio , black cruncher ( did well for me last year ) cormorant . If you fancy a throw for pike a dead bait from the bank will do you , there are a good head of perch, pike in the loch now with most bays holding them. If i were you i would hire a boat and get the trolling gear out , there are some serious browns , ferox , and sizeable rainbows to be had . Once the season starts im usually up nearly every other week if you pm me nearer the time i will try to keep you right. I might be biast but you cant beat a day afloat on loch awe .. only 30 days to go

Hello,
me and the misses spent the first week in June there last year, its a lovely place! As a word of advice take plenty of midge repellent, its hoaching with them Theres an area to launch a small boat on site, a little track takes you right down to the Loch shore. You can park there on the beach. If you look left down the loch you will see a large bay with a headland, that looked like a really good area when we done a reckie on a boat last year. There is a place to hire a boat in the village if you don't have your own. There is some good sea fishing in loch Melfort, we caught Pollock and Mackeral last year. An excellent drive is to Kilmelford on the single track road past Loch Avich. Beautiful place, enjoy .

Thanks guys, you have made me look all the more forward to it.
PM shall be sent before i go mate for some more advice. I dont really have trolling gear so kind of limited to the bank. I will take a we spinning rod tho and have a go for perch through the day & trout in the morning and evening on the fly, can't wait.

Its a cracking wee loch as you say just north of Dalavich, it tends to come better when the weather starts picking up from april onwards , plenty of small browns in the 8-10oz bracket , with the bigger fish occasionally thrown in for good measure . This is where the local lads do a lot of there fishing in the warmer months i.e June , July , August , especially at night it comes alive just before sunset , good thing its covered by your loch awe permit , so a day on the big loch finished off by a night on Avich , great day.

Default Loch Awe

Myself, wife and kids went up there a couple of years back. The cottage was tiny (my wife described it as a converted pigeon loft) but the area was great.

Just before we left, there was an escape of rainbows from one of the fish farms. Didn't catch many browns when i was there but myself, kids and even my wife managed to catch loads of rainbows.

Apart from one day we hired a boat (guy with the garden full of geese, ducks and chickens does the boat hire- ask at the shop in Dalavich if unsure), I fished entirely from the beach. Fished most days from 4am for 3-4 hours (before family got up) and then again at dusk.

Had a stunning holiday, midges were lethal though - some evenings a midge hood was the only option...
