Default Sink Rate Chart

If any of you are like me, and like to know exactly what depth you're fishing at then this chart may be of some use.

I laminate it and stick it to my tackle box !

Based on WF8 Lines (approximate times only)

LINE Sink Rate Per Sec. Per 5Ft Per 10Ft Per 15Ft Per 20Ft Per 30Ft

Slow Glass 0.8 75 150 N/A N/A N/A
SSI 1 60 120 N/A N/A N/A
Kelly Green Int 1.25 48 96 N/A N/A N/A
Fast Glass 1.5 40 80 N/A N/A N/A
Wet Cell 2 2 30 60 N/A N/A N/A
DI - 3 3 20 40 60 N/A N/A N/A
DI – 5 Hi-De 5 12 24 36 48 N/A
DI-7 7 8.5 17 25.5 34 51
DI – 8 8 7.5 15 22.5 30 45

Yes handy chart,I've resolved to get a bit more scientific when I fish sinkers this season- do you count your lines down, or use a stopwatch Rob? I do the one mississippi two mississippi thing, but with a gob full of sarnie all accuracy goes out of the window!

Default Counting down !

It really depends on what I'm doing ..

If I'm in a match; then I figure of 8 keeping in touch, while I count down in 1 second intervals in my head.

Again there will be some inaccuracy in counting, but you need to keep in touch and be aware of whats happening around you (ie other anglers, boats etc)

I always try and get the majority of my takes "half way" back through my retrieve when fishing a sinker....this is how your at the right depth (basically you'll also pick up the odd fish thats higher in the water, or deeper in the water, at the beggining and end of your retrieve.

When I'm Zander fishing, On the Lead Core or Booby fishing - especially on a concrete bowl I must admit that I do use my watch to time the line down...depth in these instances makes all the difference and you need to know exactly where your fly is and make adjustments accordingly..

Thanks for that Rob - very useful.
Like others, one of my 'new season resolutions' is to think a bit more about depth and depth control as i am sure it is a key to finding more fish

Default Chart

I have the sink rate in a nice little chart, that didn't come out well on this forum (my own inability - sorry)

if anyone wants to email me on robert.edmunds@peterborough.gov.uk then they could list the better chart
