Default Fishing DVD's

I have a number of fishing related DVD's and one of my favorites is "A River Somewhere". However yesterday I received "Trout Bum Diaries" volume 1 Patagonia, from a forum member, Toady.
If you have watched it you will know how good it is , I think it is simply stunning, not just a thirty minute piece of rubbish, like so many overpriced DVDs.
It is beautifully filmed, great location, nice background music, and fishing from start to finish.
Patagonia has always had a serious draw for me, ever since I saw Paul Young pulling wild brownies out of the Rio Chico, which wasn't much bigger than a ditch, electrifying stuff.
If you haven't seen this, I can seriously recommend it, action from beginning to end, and Trout I dream about.
Cheers S.
What's your favorite?

...and there was me thinking you were a man of taste and discernment

The Trout Bum Diaries, all of them, are about the most moronic DVDs I have ever come across. They get worse as the series unfolds.

A bunch of complete idiots shouting and screaming, music from hell that drowns out what they call a commentary and little or no respect shown for the fish. It's only saving grace is some quite well shot scenery.

....so there

If you want to see what fishing DVDs should be like try the "New Zealand Trophy Waters" series. Top class fishermen in a fantastic environment, catching magnificent fish and treating them with the repect they deserve. Quiet and sensible commentary when necessary and music that goes with fishing.

Speaking of Mr Young I'v been watching all the reruns of Hooked on Fishing on the Discovery Channel since I got my Sky+ Box and that episode was on there .Brilliant place and if you have access to that channel well worth watching them all and there are a few other fishing progs on there as well ( if you can abide John Wilson )

How so Roy? I think they are better than some 'well known' TV anglers who seem to me to be forever lifting large fish by the tail wrist first without properly supporting them underneath. I stand to be corrected but I really don't think the AEG guys are all that bad.

I too find the soundtrack a bit much but love the scenery and the fish, and for that reason I have to agree with mrtrout.

I can't actually remember specifics and I really don't want to watch it again but I do recall thinking "that's no way to treat a fish". Do agree about many TV presenters.

Roy, are we talking about the same series?
No loud mouth screaming idiots on my copy, just young very passionate anglers.
Every fish caught was handled without a net, and held under the belly to support them.
All on film were safely returned, and unharmed.
Hardly any commentary, just fishing and low background music which wasn't in the least annoying.
Perhaps you got a copy of the trout Scum diaries.
Haven't seen any other of the series but this one was fantastic. So there.
And Roy if I remember correctly, you supported Morris Dancing.!!

Hi molley, I have that episode on DVD and often watch it, fantastic.
As for JW, sorry I can't abide the man. More Roys type.

Trout Bum 1 was good 2 was ok 3 was poor.

I think that the first one was a bit different so it was quite good, the second and third are more of the same though and it does get a bit tiresome.

I know that they are not meant as a 'teaching' style DVD but as a documentary you do want some info on what they are doing, methods, flies ect. The 3rd one in Mongolia does not have enough fishing in it IMHO.

Still they are worth a watch for the scenary and the fish....

I would highly reccomend Bonefish but Charles Rangley Wilson - bought it for Christmas - very good indeed.

The Compleat Angler on Youtube is also worth a watch.

You must be stone deaf and wait until you get to the Mongolian one, it is unbelievably bad. Actually, you can't hear the commentary on account of the music

Mr Trout, let me explain......... Roy has a deep seated, pathological hatred of the Angling Exploration Group, producers and 'stars' of the Trout Bum DVDs. He is undergoing extensive therapy and counselling, sometimes involving painful aversion techniques (beaten on his bare bottom with a section of a Sage XP!).

The true test of the success of his treatment will be his 'appreciation' of the latest AEG film "H2O Notes". I'll cellotape him to a chair and make him watch it at the next social.

It could get messy!
