Default Toft Newton...?

My Neighbour and I are getting restless and want to get our lines wet! lol He asked me if I would like to go to a place called Toft Newton with him which he says is a 'concrete basin'. He hasn't fished it before and therefore can't tell me what to expect as he doesn't know himself. So I thought I'd ask you fine people if any of you have been before and whats it like?

Any input appreciated!

Thanks,

Jimmy.

Cracking coarse fish potential, especially eels.

Default Toft

Your mate is quite right, it is a concrete bowl near Market Rasin, about 12 mile from where I am at this very moment, I have fished it, it fishes well most of the time, a boat is your best bet, but, a lot fish from the wall, personally I think it's a bit dodgy, very slippery on the concrete slopes, pick a nice day, it's very open and the wind can be a problem, as well as being very cold, some time back they stocked salmon, I'm told there's still a chance of lifting into one, I doubt it, I've not heard of anyone doing so, there are some very good fish in there, value for money,
Cheers and have a nice day at Toft

Toft opens for Trout fishing on the 7th of feb , see the website for details . www.toftnewton.com

Its generally good fishing and you can allways get the wind behind you , if you feel the need , however if you are not catching MOVE, dont stay in one spot . Buzzers or Boobies work very well or a large lure .

Thanks for the replies. The 7th of Feb was when he was looking at going, not sure who told him about it but its a day out so I think I'll tag along with him and have a look-see! I'll let you all know what/if we catch!

I think you will end up going more than once, no need for a boat first off, tactics would be something like black/green or white/green lures on a fast glass or di 3 pulled, or get the heavy stuff out and give the booby a swim. Its not a deep lake, bank anglers fish in water upto around 12" with upto 20" ish when fished from a boat. On a milder day give the buzzers a swing and expect good sport and some quality fish (dont fish too light). Jason does a fantastic job at Toft am im sure you will enjoy your day out.

tight lines

It's a good venue - don't go when it's windy. Jason will give you some good advice.

Thumbs up Re Toft

Do go wether its windy or not,if its blowing a gale expect it to be hard work same as anywere else.
If it is a gentle to moderate wind then fish in it you will have some cracking sport if you do.
Dont be put off by windy days they can be some of the best times to be on the bank.
If you cannot cast into a wind then either learn or tackle it at an angle dont miss out on a possible good days sport.
Toft fishes very well most of the time and Jason is a top geezer and will help you anyway he can.
There are not any places that you hire a boat/motor all set up for you and a full days fishing for less than twenty quid.
As already said lures ie taddy/cats and fritz all work well buzzer/blob and various otrher flys also do the biz on the day . Hope this is of some help

Highly recommended fishery.
Fishes well early from the bank before the fish move into deeper water. Usual suspects for early season black and white cats work well.
Jason is a "top bloke" very helpful and knowledgeable. He runs a good fishery with lots of fish. Average size last year was just about 1 1/2 lbs with a fair smattering of bigger fish and lots of over wintered fish about 4 - 5 lbs.

It may be a concrete bowl but it is fishable all round the circumference and the fish swim around in regular circles a;long a beat. If you don't catch in one spot move until you find somewhere.

Well worth a shot. I may go early but it's a long trek for me but I try and go once or twice a year.

The evening rises in the summer have to be seen to be believed and the water is full of buzzers.

Good luck

Iain
