Default Sinking Lines for Lough

Has anyone got any ideas on good brands of sinking lines to use on the loughs/lochs for early season brown trout fishing? I'm looking for a slow to medium sinker for a 6# rod, to get down a bit but not too fast (not the superfast HI D's).

I will be fishing Corrib in the early season and have Intermediate and floating lines so just looking for something to get down a bit deeper especially for those early season browns.

Regards
Bert

the airflow sixthsense di 3 should do the trick for you if the fish are deep , it casts well and doesnt suffer from memory problems . several anglers from wales use these lines when the wind picks up

regards robroy

Thanks RobRoy. I saw them, the only thing I'm worried about is the sizes in these lines. I've seen that they're in 6/7 and 7/8 weights. The rod I use is a 6#, would the 6/7 be too powerful for this and maybe more suitable for 7# rods.

Why can't they make them for each individual weight?

Has anyone used the 6/7 on 6# rods and if so any problems?

Bert

I use 6/7 weight Airflo lines on my #6 weight Enigma EMG or 6/7Greyflex M2, they handle perfectly on those rods,no problems.
I would consider using either the Airflo sweep lines or SA wet-cel 2,wet-cel 3 for mid depth brownies.
These lines have more of a curve in the retrieve track which brownies are supposed to prefer given the choice.

Well Bert i fish corrib on the opening day every season and a wet cel 2 is my line of choice, the fish tend to close in on the rocks and islands feeding on shrimp and louse,so it not all that important to go deep for them.

Hi Bert,
I normally use a Wetcel 4 if the fish are really down with a weighted fly on the point usually a wee double ,but most of my early season fishing is done with a fastglass intermediate .

Hope this helps Colin.

The 6/7 should be fine bert try not to aerialise too much line though , they are also very good at converting takes into fish because of the low stretch properties tight lines

One thing you should remember bert is that if your drifting in a boat you havnt got the same amount of time for your line to get down! but the airflo di3 is a good line
