Default How was your water fishing in 1853?

Stumbled on this on tinternet:-

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=A...result#PPR3,M1

Apparently my main trout fishing river (the Windrush) was '...by no means, an inviting stream'!

Fantastic link! Derbyshire gets a section entirely to itself!

It's very interesting to see what rivers use to hold a head of trout (I.E. pretty much all of them).
The genteel nature of the introduction is a joy.

Nice post.

Amwell magma doesn't look as if it gets a mention but should I suppose!

Wonderful

Writing of Monmouthshire

In this county there are delightful streams, in many localities they traverse, where fly-fishing can be enjoyed to perfection.

and of the Monow (stet)

It is impossible to over-rate these waters.

plus ca change . . . .

Talking Derbyshire

I see we have all dashed to read up on our favourite rivers. Although I suspected as much, this smashing book gives us an early reputation as the best anglers in the country. The more you research, the more you realise that Derbyshire IS the centre of the fly fishing universe!

The Dove section is great and describes our fishing to a tee - graylings to 4lb?

Now where's my nymphs....

Even as an occasional vistor and a devoted Monnowphile I find it hard to argue with that! Though please don't tell Percival I admitted it.
