Default Float tube advice

Hi all.

This is my first thread here

I started fly fishing when i was 7 and fished almost daily until i was 17, then through work and stuff i ended up giviing up, i am 24 now and i have more spare time so i want to get back into it, Now i have bought myself a rod and setup and a fly tying kit too, brilliant thats 2 old hobbies i have now resurrected.

Now i want to add one more hobby, Float tubing Me and my buddy have got a snowbee uboat's, (any info on this tube?) plus 5mm neoprene's and a manual life vest, is there anything else we need?

Currently we are looking at fins, so far i can see that most people seem to rate the Force fins, do they fit in the boot type waders? but they are a bit expensive does anyone know if there are decent fins for around the £50 mark? i dont want to spend too much on something i may not get much use out of.

Thanks

T1Viper

Hi Viper, welcome to the forum. I have recently taken up this sport as well.
I had a lot of very good advice from Ameliasdaddy, a member on here.
Also checkout the BFTA site, can be of good use.

A pan handle landing net is very useful depending on whether your going to be fishing C&R, you can unhook the fish in the water and I always paddle backwards to ensure the point fly - if the fish is on a dropper - is nowhere near my legs or worse still the tube!! You sound pretty much ready to go otherwise, its great fun by the way!!!! With regards to flippers I purchased mine from 'Fishtec' which tighten with a drawstring. My waders have a lip on the back of the boot attached that help prevent them slipping off and ive never had a problem. Hope this helps, tight lines!!

hi bud welcome to the forum
i stay in ayrshire as well and have been tubing for 2 seasons now
i normally fish the smaller waters like howood , middleton, fairlie moor ,etc
one of the best things i got was thermal underwear because the water gets cold after a while even in summer .
if you want to meet up for an outing get in touch with either myself or Skaman hes my tubing buddy
regards scott

I`v still to use my tube after buying it last year, wouldn`t it be a good idea to have a meet ?

It would be great if the more experienced float tube user`s could come along to give us tips.

What do you think guys.

Scott

Thanks man
i have fished fairlie moor a few times ( infact i started there when it was glenburn) also fished howood, and that one that used to be at the roundabout at galston, other ones were new mills, springwater, and occasionally moffat. but yeah it would be good to know some more fisher's in my area as my mate (clueless turtle) lives miles away and we will only get to fish together a few times a year.
