I am guessing some kind of tendon problem. I can only guess I am maybe gripping my rod too tightly?
I am planning to go to the doctors next week anyway as I have a sore back so will bring it up then.
Any thoughts or similar experiences from you guys?
Thanks

Sounds very tendonitis, will ask one of the doctors at work tomorrow.
It sounds like you may be holding the rod too tight for now if sore :
R = Rest the injured part
I = Ice it to reduce inflamation/brufen too if guts are ok and you don't have asthma.
C = Compression may need a support bandage
E = Elevation keep it up when resting
Putting your hand in hot then cold water will help with blood flow and work those little muscles back to strength.
