Red face Droppers

Hi
this is my first time on the forum as I only took up fly fishing half way through last season. I am based at Dunnet Bay in scotland from March
to the end of october thus having acess to all the local lochs. I have
been a hardened sea fisherman for a number of years now having my
own warrioir165 boat having all this on my doorstep it seemed daft not
to take up fly fishing aswell. I,ve been fishing the lochs up on Dunnet
head (well I thought while I,m learning to cast I might aswell practice
on the lochs) with dry flys fro brown trout. Now I,m ready to start earlier
this year I,ve been told to fish with a dropper earliy on in the season so
any advice would be greatly welcomed, you,ll have to bear with me as I,m
still getting my head around the terminology used with fly fishing.

Thanks. Steve................

A search on the forum re droppers will bring up a lot of hits and good advice.

An eight inch piece of leader material, same make and diameter as main leader, two-turn water knotted to your main leader will do the trick.

The Pirate.

If you have problems with droppers , don't be scared of using only 1 fly. I fished 1 fly only for years when I 1st started and I don't think I caught a lot less .Coarse fishermen don't use droppers ! A dropper is a potential weakness in the system .

Using droppers you can offer the fish a variety of flies and fish them at different depths all at the same time - it must be a considerable advantage.
