Yes - in many ways 2wt would be better as for the majority of time little or no fly line is outside the tip ring - basically, you're casting mono.

I often have line off the reel but never out side the rod tip.

Basic setup: Very soft ten foot 3# 15ft (4.4mts) tapered leader with a tippet of about 4-6 ft (1-2mtrs) with either two or three very light nymphs size 18- 28. I also include one or two pieces of floro material between the leader and the tippet to help with bite detection especially in fast shallow riffles.

This link will helpfull:flyforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=31004

I would say... your fly line is not out from reel. Yes you cast with mono and no you don't have to use 3 weight or less rod (if you are not compet. angler ). My Z-Axis 9.6' #4 is very good and for my relax flyfishing ideal. Cast with PTN size 20 ... no problem. But not when you try this technique first time.

What leader material are you using to make up the actual leader?

good link jozef, do you fish it with a tightline like czech style, or do you need a slacker line for the smaller nymphs?
would a soft 10ft 4/5# do the trick?
