Default Working Party Insurance Advice

Being involved in a volunteers river restoration project I am at a stage where I'm looking for Insurance for our working parties. I'd hoped our forum members with knowledge/experience might have recommendations for insurance companies. Up to now the Angling trust seems good with 50 + 85= £135 up to 50 members per year.

Any suggestions welcome

Mick

The key point in obtaining a competitive quotation is to approach a broker or insurer who understands the nature of the risk. If they don't have experience in writing that type of business, they might decline to quote or be uncompetitive because they will err on the side of caution when setting your premium - and that always means more expensive than it need be. £135 for (I assume) public liability insurance doesn't seem unreasonable and if anyone is going to understand the nature of the risk, hopefully it's brokers acting for an angling organisation.

Be sure that the policy covers what you want it to cover - and read carefully anything titled "endorsements", "warranties" or "conditions precedent to liability" as that's where the "get out of paying" clauses are usually hidden.

Trugg, is this on behalf of a club?

If so then you need cover for Liability Insurance, etc as well. As long as details of the work party's, members attending, etc, are all listed then that should be included.

If it's not linked to a club, then the amount you have been quoted seems reasonable.

As a comparison a club I was involved in a number of yrs ago paid about £500 per yr, to cover 5 or 6 fisheries, along with work party's, and I think that was direct with Lloyds?

As mentioned above, try someone who specialises in angling clubs, etc.

Mick ,
It could be worth trying Mead Sports and Leasure.
Had our clubs insurance there for years,
Only last year I upgraded to cover working parties,
bailiffs etc, Our cost was based on the amount of people
in the parties and the ammount of sessions per year.

Hope this helps
Ken.

I'm insured through the Countryside Alliance and one of their recognised activities is conservation work. BASC offers the same but is £10 more for individuals. I imagine either of these would quote your needs.

Cheers

Hi guys

I've sent via PM, as promised,to Trugg.

But for the sake of a future "search" the name I was looking for was BTCV...British Trust for Conservation Volunteers
