I mark all my sinking lines at 14ft as I use a 10ft rod
I find this gives me just enough line to begin a new cast yet remain in total control of my flies and line...especially on the hang..or in high winds...
If you want to hang deeper in the water simply hang when your marker hits your tip ring.....(or perhaps half way down your rod)
I simply measure 14ft from my braided loop (with a tape measure)
Then whip 1 " of fluro yellow or orange thread on the line so there is a pronounced bump.
I'd guess that its approx 4 layers of standard thread (or 2 layers of heavy duty stuff)
Then superglue and leave to set for 15 mins
Cut off any sticking out thread so everything is flush...superglue again
Superglue a 3rd time
3 coats should give you a nice smooth finish
simple as that really
