My wife has just confirmed Skin So Soft is the one too!

Also keeps your skin lovely and smooth and hydrated too, so my wife tells me.

I don't know if they all work but this is the one that gets recommended on all the outdoor sites, even the army use it

The Woodland Fresh scented one in an oil mist spray i believe. Though it doesn't work for me and find Tabbard to be better.

I've only ever used Skin So Soft in a light blue 150ml bottle that describes itself as a "Replenishing dry body oil spray".
It really does stop the midgies biting, even when there are clouds so thick that you're breathing them in.
Weirdly, it doesn't stop them landing on you but they must get stunned/stoned when they come into contact with it and don't actually bite - although you do end up with a sort of pebble dashed look about you!

It's a very personal thing,It has NO repellent effect on me.
When I read the test report by the US army on it,It said to have ''any'' effect It had to be reaplied every 20min
