Question comment in fish&fly news !!

re;-Are Grayling now under threat from increasing Cormorant numbers?

i personally dont think cormorants are a problem to grayling ok they may take a few ,but i think that a more severe problem is the amount of "sawbill" wildfowl, ie mergansers, goosanders etc that inhabit more of the upper regions of our rivers,on the ure alone there are hundreds of these around,no doubt taking immature fish as would a cormorant but there is a damn site more of these around (sawbill's),the cormorant is a large bird and would struggle to chase fry/immature/adult fish in much of the shallow waters as we have in our upper river regions, but and theres always a but ,that is my view i stand to be corrected !!

your thought's??

Thought the same myself, until one day a few years back, I arrived on the Gryffe, just before first light. Most of the feeding is done while we're all tucked up in bed. Sent a shiver down my spine.
