Give Gordon a ring on Tel: 01287 660501 or Mobile: 07973 779527 and he should be able help. It might be best to ring to check that he is actually open as he was talking about closing the 31st of Dec through till March/April and I see that the web site has not been updated for a week or so.

I can answer the question about the lodge selling flies, it does along with leader/tippet material and quite a few other bits and bobs.

As for the question about float or ledger I have seen more fish caught on the bottom than with a float but with there being quite a fair bit of weed cover across the bed of the lake you need to "pop" up your bait for the best results.

When I said that you need to "pop" your bait up I meant that it would be beneficial that it was not sat on the bottom as to be more visible to the trout. DO NOT use any bait other than maggot or worm that is all that is allowed.

I know that some of the bait fishermen use maggots in a feeder and on the hook.

You need the maggot on the hook to float so use a lightish type hook and Take a clean maggot container and add just enough water to cover a handful of maggots. Put the lid on and leave them for about half an hour. In a bid to escape drowning the maggots will gulp lots of air and so a little air bubble will form inside them. Try 2-4 lightly hooked as not to burst them and they should float up off the bottom.
