Default what is scale reading

i was just browsing around the net looking for info on best trout and salmon fishing on the ribble and came across this forum http://www.salmonfishingforum.com/fo...ead.php?t=6363

i was reading that post about tainted flavoured trout and salmon in the ribble and to quote one post
"killed one this year, backend mid-ribble, been in less than a week. That tasted great, even as sashimi!

Please, no outraged 100% C&R'ers replies; all of it was eaten, the skin was cured, scales saved for reading"

whats the reading story and why ? also anyone hear had any bad fish out of ribble ?
