Hi guys, newbie question here, I have heard the term on a lot of posts and also heard it on the banks too but I have no idea what it is and more importantly how do I do it?

Hi' Ally. One of the advantages of using a figure-8 retrieve is that you can cast the coiled line by opening the line hand a little on the forward cast. Some people drop the line at the their feet after every four or five fig-8 motions, but you can retain it in the line hand and and release it as above. I can't remember ever having a snarl up when doing this. Just put slight pressure on the bunched line between the base of your fingers and the ball of your thumb.
Some anglers who use hand lines for sea fishing off rocks etc can cast a lot of line, figure-8 laid, off their open palm. So I am told. TC
