Default Freezing eyes on my rod!

Hi all,

I went to Meon Springs last week as that was the only lake in the area not ressembling an ice ring! The problem I found was that the eyes on my rod were freezing up and also the line felt as though it was cracking.
Can anyone recommend a way to stop ice forming on rod eyes? I know the obvious one would be to stay in bed!
A coarse fishing mate of mine suggested vasoline on the rod eyes, would that help?

Regards

Just dunk the rod in the water before you cast.

Default Freezing rod eyes

Use Glycerin on your rod eyes

This seems to last for about 15 to 20 mins and then re-apply

Problem solved

Is glycerin different to vasaline and where do you get it from?

glycerine is sugar based, vaseline petroleum based not to sure if vaseline would affect the coating of your fly line though ,i would certainly enquire about it !!
