Thumbs down Trout Fisherman

Hello

After purchasing Trout Fisherman Mag for years I have been very dissapointed over the past couple of years and this months mag is the icing on the cake with next to nothing in it and a stupid GAC stapled in it to bulk it up. What does everyone else think, I miss the old editor at least he knew his stuff about fishing and the articles were done by anglers and not the same Nic Hart etc every month etc fishing with hares ears and stuff thats been around for decades.

What do you all think? Is it going downhill at TF

Yes it is tripe, a mere shadow of the publication from the 70's/early 80's. If I ever buy a magazine now it is either FF&FT or for a different read back copies of Waterlog from the auction site. If you search you'll find plenty of other threads on this topic.

Once you've read the monthly’s for a few years you realise that it's just the same old stuff rehashed over and over again with only the smallest of effort to make it look like something new. FF&FT being in my view being something of an exception as it seems to go to greater editorial efforts to report actual news, new developments and fishing for species other than salamnoids.
Mind you, treat yourself to an imported US mag one day and see if we really are that badly off.

Have to agree - this months is a bit thin on the ground. I am not a big fan of rod reviews as they are often done by one person. One man's meat is another man's poison! If they are going to review rods then they need a number of testers not just one!

The thing is although I prefer FF&FT it tends to be a bit more river than stillwater based.

TF reall needs a revamp IMHO - nothing wrong with its contributors (Ian Barr ect.) but they need to start aiming a lot more articles at the more experienced angler.

Oh goodie, magazines again. Didn't realise the last six weeks had flown in so quick.

Only got hold of TF this morning. (It seems to take up to a week longer to get here). Just had a quick browse, not had the chance to read it yet, but the content looks quite good to me.

Some body will come on in a minute and tell us how they repeat themselves once a year.

Ah the irony!
Maybe we'll stop repeating ourselves when they do!

Come on guys, we do this every six weeks or so. Same thread, same comments, same opinions. They must laugh their t!ts off in their offices. They could probably write the threads themselves by now.

I like them, I buy them. Good articles, good instruction and great photography. Trout Fisherman is among the best of them.

I have sent articles (Well written articles) in a few times over the last few years and nothing has been printed ,Articles on spider fishing on the Tweed and the Clyde as well as some brown trout lochs I frequent.

I have also sent articles on Peden Reservoir,Loch Ettrick and Megget Reservoir to Trout and Salmon and nothing.

It seems they just like us to read the same old stuff you have mentioned above along with far to many ADVERTS!.

Rant over.

Collin

My Dad has been a subsciber to TF for years and after this months edition he phoned up and cancelled it. The mag is pretty rubbish to be honest and that GAC catalogue stapled into it was a bad idea IMHO. Its a really good mag for folks getting into the sport and I think for that it serves an important purpose.

But the thing that really p***ed him off was the fact he realised he's been paying more for his subscription thatn the current costs The point of subscribibg is to avoid the price hike that occurs every so often!

So if your a long time subscriber maybe you should check too, to make sure your not being ripped off too!!
