Default FAO Dils and others

Regarding the 'Fishing at the foot of Snowdon' post I would like to add my own views on this.

The guy, obviously new to the sport, walks miles up a mountain to spend a few moments......fly fishing. He takes time to enthusiastically tell us about his day, taking some cracking photographs and was obviously overjoyed at catching a single trout.

What followed was a tirade of self righteous, 'holier than thou' abuse from experienced anglers.......the very anglers that Dils was attempting to share his experience with and no doubt impress.

He then apologises for his mistake and obviously thoroughly embarrassed asks for the post to be removed. Some posters came to the rescue of Dils, whilst others not satisfied with their previous attempts at 'knocking' the newbie, continued to belittle him, citing the Ides of the Antis and the EA (some might say that these are the same people).

Dils......if you read this, thank you for sharing your obviously enjoyable experience with us and for having the decency to apologise for your mistake. Personally, I think that you're due a couple of apologies yourself........starting with Wnion - enjoy your fly fishing

Good photos Dils - please post more Snowdon images.

I'm glad that admin deleted the thread for you.
If they hadn't I was about to suggest that you edited your original post to nothing and I would have reciprocated where I 'quoted' part of your post.

ps. Was I correct about the lake?

Well said Bugsy, I'll hold up my hand and admit that I was one of the first to have a wee pop.We should be encouraging newcomers to the sport not jumping on them from a great hieght when it was obvious the lad did not know the score.
My apologies Dils.....look forward to hearing more of your fishing conquests when the brown trout season starts in earnest.

OK, I totally missed the thread. What was the issue?

I'm going to throw out a wild guess. Was it that he didn't have permission to fish there, making the wild, wild assumption that, ya know, it being a national park and all. . .

I Also enjoyed reading the Post and looking at pics.....surely the only thing he did wrong was stating he wanted to catch a Wild brown trout?

Roger that, Grouse. I didn't see it either.

Though I imagine if it was a mildly embarrassing error, he might not want the precise details dredged up and dissected again in yet another thread: Having asked for the previous one to be removed.

Fair enough, good point .D., if that's the case.

I was thinking more that he was so hounded that feared the Anal Fixation Forum Police would never leave him alone unless the thread was totally deleted. Probably two sides of the same coin.

Well said Bugsy

I very nearly responded to that thread and some of the subsequent posts along the same lines as yourself, im glad i didn't now, because you have said what needed saying much better than i would have.

Dils, if you are still with us mate please do not be put off by the negative responses you got from a very small element of the forum. Unfortunately this kind of thing seems to happen now and then, the vultures sit on the fence waiting on a naive newbie to stumble along, and instead of pointing the poor chap in the right direction, they pounce, showing no mercy.

I really enjoyed your post Dills, and along with the great pictures your exitement and enthusiasm for this great sport were obvious in your words. keep up the good work mate and i hope we see and hear more about your adventures next year.

Robbie

I'm sorry but ignorance is no defence.

I'm sure that you would be appalled Bugsy, if I decided one morning to pop up to the Dee to deliberately target some salmon out of season, publish the photo on the web and then plead ignorance.
