Default Loch Leathan, Lochgilphead, Scotland

Random question, but has anyone ever heard of anyone fishing Loch Leathan or Loch Awe near the town of Barmolloch above Lochgilphead in the West of Scotland?

(PS - Not to be confused with Loch Leathan on the Isle of Skye!!)

****, those Awe trout are MASSIVE I didn't know brownies could ever grow that big.

It's really the wee Loch Leathan I'm wondering about, there is a farm on the banks of it that we are interested in and obviously I would like to scope out the fishing potential

Hi', Scrob, they go bigger than that.
A couple of years ago, a Sunday I believe, I had a call from a friend on his mobile, and I could hear water lapping in the background. It was a lad called Dave Greenwood, a Preston lad who fishes occasionally on Ullswater, our nearest lake.
''We're on Loch Awe, and we've just broken the British record for wild brown trout at 31 1/2lbs.'' Dave was the skipper in his 17ft Angler's Fancy boat, and the lad who caught the monster was a local Cumbrian called, appropriately, Brian Rutland. As is often the case, shortly afterwards another couple of really big fish were caught on the loch. I think they weighed 29 and 30 lb-ish.
Dave used down-rigger gear for his trolling -- and the kit was bought on a trip to the 'States quite a while back. Dave has had trout from Derwentwater over 8lbs and pike of over 17lbs that I know of. Cheers TC

Wow that is a BRUTE! I really didn't know brown trout existed up to that size, I'd be more than happy with one of a couple of pounds

Still nobody to fish the elusive Leathan then? It is quite a small loch/lake in the countryside, up a mountain near Barmolloch.
