Fishing Bothy - do they still exist?

Iv read so much about guys in a bothy waiting for the sunset / or rain to go off etc and generally tell stories and hang out before and after sessions .

do they still exist? Has anyone got an tales or myths ? or does vandalism and young torags spoil this in modern times.

They are more huts than bothy's & in the main on Salmon rivers. They can vary from a basic "Garden Shed" to a rather sumptuous out house with all mod cons.

This one on Tulchan Speyside

I think the last and only time I saw one was in 2007 selkirk - Galashields but the stretch of the river it was on looked very well maintained and very private . I was camping near by on the saturday night for a car show in selkirk on the sunday . Wishing i had my gear with me ....

I know of one in central Scotland, obviously I can't say where it is or it'll be burnt down at the weekend.

Hi' Andy, Just posted reply to your comment on polystickles on Ivens' thread.
Did either you or Stan ever fish salt water style in the Kyle of Durness? I've past it on numerous occasions, a good while back, and I used to itch to try the estuary, it looks gorgeous.
I have mentioned on FFF, a few weeks back, that a pal and I once saw about five wee burn/loch trout in the little fresh water pool in Smoo Cave. We presumed they came down the rock fissures, as alevins or even as eyed ova, from Loch Meadaidh or Allt Smoo. Nearest my pals and I got to fishing the area was on 'Tarvie' and Lochan Sgeirach just off the Rhiconich-Durness road. A ritual when we stayed at Rhuvoult for our holidays was a Wednesday lunch at Durness, in the restaurant overlooking the sea. Cheers,TC
