Default 25 years on

what do you consider to be the biggest advance in our sport over the last 25years?
could it be flies, lines, rods fisheries or some other influence.
or have we gone backwards

Put and take fisheries (a lot of them man made)has to be the biggest influence on how fly fishing has changed over the last 25 years.I don't think it is a good thing or a bad thing, just a natural progression to cater for demand.

I'd say clothing, look at the pics from 100 years ago, still got rods, reels, lines, boats, but look at the outfits, oilskins, flat cap and hob nailed boots, to a man.

I'd say that double edged sword - information.

Information in its various forms - a far greater range of magazines - the internet / blogs etc and ease of sharing that information, contrasts sharply with the situation even 10 years ago let alone 25.

Double edged? The quality of the information often leaves much to be desired and the information explosion has spawned a whole generation of 'would be' anglers who expect to read or be told how to fish rather than find out through personal experience.

that was my view! the Internet and ease of getting stuff from all over the world
has surely done more to advance our sport

As someone who tried it years ago and gave up, I would have to say rods. The quality and usability of mid priced gear compared to back then is beyond imagining.

I also think there has been a big change in attitudes. As a coarse angler I see a great change towards catch and release and fish handling practices among trout anglers.
