Default Fly Fishers Club London

Does any one know anything about the Fly Fishers club in St James? All google is providing is the address and phone number.

I walked past it the other day. I didn't know it existed, looked a very nice little London club. I just wanted to see if there was any knowledge before I knocked on the front door or phoned.

I am guessing it has an entrance policy like other London clubs (I know, I have membership at one of them).

Pretty exclusive with no fishery as such. Their website is only available via secure login

carlos, membership by invite only I understand, and you have to be approved by a few member to get in (or was that the masons?).

Anyway, a few on here are members and whilst i could enjoy poking fun at them, i'm only envious and want to go have a look.
Not value for money from what I understand, but then if you are even thinking 'what do I get for my £xxx' then you're in the wrong club.

Is this the fly fishers' club that also produces a very informative small magazine, similar in size and appearance to that produced by the grayling club?

I've fished with a handful of members; on various Strutt and Parker weeks in Patagonia and the Ponoi on Russia's Kola peninsula, both are firm favourites.

I didn't know of the London Club premises.

It is on one floor above the Savile Club on Brook Street. They have an amazing library, but it is a social club, not a fishing club with water, and I guess it would only work if you lived in London. No idea what the membership criteria or processes are, but you need to be invited and then seconded I think. So you'd need to know at least two members.

I have read about it and sure Charles Jardine referred to it in "Dark Pools".
Its purely a flyfishmen's gentleman's club for people to chat and poss tie a fly over a brandy or two.

I have spied one in Edinburgh called the Trout Angler's Club and looks like a nice place to go for a quite drink with like minded people.

Depending on age I beleive that membership for adults, over 35, is £400 + £400 joining fee the first year.

You need to be invited to join and go through a selection process. They have lovely club rooms above the Saville club in Brook St Mayfair. If you work in central London and the "club" scene is your thing well worth joining.

They also do a B&B deal for members £60ish per night which for central London is good value.

They hold a couple of fishing events each year and you will meet and maybe get access to some fantastic fishing opportunities if you meet and get on with the some of the members. It is one of the most financially sound clubs in Mayfair one the reasons cited was that they have never "owned" their club rooms choosing to rent avoiding the high cost of building maintenance etc.

There is a tackle auction twice a year, members only, where some good bargains can be had. Members who dies are encouraged to leave their tackle to the club for this purpose.

It's a friendly place and if you've got the spare folding well worth investing in the membership.
