Default Norton fisheries in Essex

Have any forum menbers fished at Norton Fisheries in Essex?

Whilst we normally fish at Chiboro and really enjoy it there, Norton isnt too much farther and you get an extra fish for the same price at Chiggers

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Bob, I have never fished it but friends go from time to time.

I am told it is quite easy fishing although relatively small and one bank is not fishable because of trees. The only complaint I have heard is that the fish can be a bit small but I think it is mainly C&R anyway ?

The other places to try are Rib Valley (winter) and Walthamstow (summer).

Many thanks

I have fished Rib Valley a fair bit but not since they have moved the Trout to a different lake. Enjoyed some great fishing there moored out on one of the boats.

Last fished Walthamstow many years ago and couldnt move for all the water fowl 'land mines' carpeting the banks............

The new lake at Rib is OK, and probably more even than the bigger one, but is a bit of a "puddle". We have our first match there Sunday so wil be interested to see how evenly spread the fish are.

Wally is a "real" venue but not for the feint hearted although it seems to have fished well the last year. There site is very good :

I've fished Norton. There had been a bit of a problem with very small trout escaping from the rearing pen (due to cormorant damage to the netting apparently). Yellow buckets filled with water were provided at most pegs in which to deposit small trout caught for carriage to another pool as well as any small coarse fish landed - there are plenty of Rudd there. There are also carp to reasonable figures if you fancy having a go for them.

I'm not sure if the small fish problem still exists. I found it a bit of a nuisance and had to resort to huge flies to fend them off! If everything's back to normal I would be inclined to give it another go.

Cheers

I think it will be Chigboro again this weekend now that Hanningfield is closed for the season.

Default Chigboro

well, we decided on Chigboro again this weekend.

Milder day than the rest of the week but rather calm and I prefer a ripple on top.

Loads of great fish around but I had an off day and lost a fish of around 6-7lbs at the net. There must have been a comp on today as there were a large bunch of fellows congregated around the clubhouse dressed up to the nines in their clobber; a number of superb fish at their feet.

I must say, I do think Chigboro is a great fishery and will continue to offer my support.

Mind you, I keep hearing good reports on Hanningfield at the start and end of the season wading at the natural bank!!!!
