Default WTT membership perks?

Of course, not all WTT membership benefits are entirely altruistic; you do get the chance to fish for a weekend for the Haddon grayling on the Wye:

I do wonder whether you downplay those perks a bit on the website. At the moment, the benefits described aren't all that enticing unless you're really thrilled by the prospect of a membership card, a car sticker and regular newsletters (badges are for life members only, so hard cheese if you fancied something to pin on your waistcoat). It's abundantly clear why anglers ought to join, but it doesn't exactly sound like fun.

Dude - its a charity. You don't set up a standing order to the NSPCC and ask whether you get Nectar points

The perks are secondary, but I just thought I'd point this one out in this thread. It is kindly provided by Warren because he likes what we do and it is also relevant to the winter fishing that many of us are doing right now.

There is also a "members" area of the website that lists some wild trout day ticket fishing. Like everything, the Trust and its website is a continually evolving thing.

I managed to scrape in to the Saturday due to a last minute cancellation..thankyou whoever it was!!!

After the early morning frozen rod rings I had a superb day on the run downstream of the pumping station..lovely fish in great condition..

Thanks to Warren for allowiing it to take place.

PS Yorkio - I appreciate where you are coming from; its just that - where best to draw the line between spending money OR (equally costly as time=money) effort on rewarding your members? Inevitably this has some cost to the main work of the charity i.e. the habitat

Heh, yeah, I know – I just couldn't resist a bit of cheap sarcasm! I was being kind of sort of serious-ish though. It's just that when you list a membership card as an actual benefit of membership, it really sounds like you're struggling to come up with a good reason why someone should fork over their thirty-five quid.

And while it's clearly daft to sell something like the WTT on the strength of its fringe benefits, it's possible that zizzing up the copy on the site a bit might make the difference between someone joining right there and then or deciding to hold on until next month (or the month after that etc). I don't think you actually have to do anything else or offer anything different, just make it a bit clearer that there are more benefits for members than just having done the right thing. If it tips even just one or two people into joining who might not otherwise have done so, it's surely not such a bad way for someone to spend a couple of hours.
