highlights............
Scierra final, although the company we kept was a bit suspect......,
anglian water regional final,
first grayling.......on a hametied fly too!!
finishing one place behind camshy in my rivers national heat
controlling in the world qualifiers......purely because I had good company in the boats both days I was out

lowlights.........
blanking in the Scottish clubs for the second successive year.

thats it really, Set a few targets to see how the season progressed and passed them. Happy as a pig in 5hit

Highlights: First wild brownie and grayling on dries on the Itchen Navigation.
Wading for the first time.
Dusk patrol on the Meon and taking over an hour to stalk and catch the same brownie (he was tiny).
Having a day at a stillwater with a mate who was convalescing from a big op.
My 2 year old son saying "daddy fishing rod" unannounced when I pulled the tube out of the cupboard.
My son holding the rod while I took him through the casting motion (he gets really excited - can't wait to take him fishing).
Just being out fishing - you can't beat it (well, maybe the best time you can have with your clothes on).

Lows (not really lows as long as you're fishing): Blanking on the same familiar beat on 4 consecutive occasions.
Not having enough time to fish as often as I'd like.
Losing 6 weeks prime fishing season Sep-Oct due to work (though at the moment I won't moan about work; I realise I'm lucky to have it).
Being absolutely unable to detect a take on a nymph that I can't see, and having an irrational aversion to using take indicators

Only my second year at it;
Highlights
- Week long fishing trip to Czech Rep (Dave Downie organised)
- Getting to grips with 3 local rivers
- Breaking the 1lbs barrier
- Night sedge fishing up the country, caught 2 of my 5 1lb+ fish in about 45 mins.

Lowlights;
- state of the rivers during the late summer, flooded fields and chocolate coloured water

Overall fantastic

Steve

Highlights, Summer evening rises and catching fish on dries.

Lowlights, Still struggling to catch one or two when others around me are catching well. Can live with that one though.

That sums it up beautifully -- for me a bit more specifically the highlights included fishing in Utah, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming -- but the best was watching a friend get really into fly fishing; watching him progress in leaps and bounds as a fly fisher, especially his casting; even watching brave the snow and cold to get out steelheading; the smile on his face and that look of WOW!!! in his eyes when he hooked his first steelie (didn't even matter that he couldn't land it) was all I needed to see to make my day!!! It was as much of a kick watching him as it was to actually fish myself.

Low point was truly not fishing enough

tops this year best overseas angler and 10th place in the Melvin open not bad for a first attempt
low; coming last this afternoon in our Christmas comp at temple (i dont think the 15pints of Guinness last night had anything to do with the result today)

next years quest is still a 3lb plus wild brown from Melvin or gill
would even settle for one from the bonet river

good luck to you all
