Default Wild Trout Trust

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/spo...cle5263977.ece

Stirring stuff from our outgoing president

Are there any good reasons why there are still anglers that fish for wild trout are not supporters of the WTT?

Or indeed any that care for the health of our rivers.

We're talking about a cost of about a pint of beer per month - not much of a sacrifice to ensure the ongoing good works of a charity that actually makes a difference.

Perhaps this will convince the odd doubter.

We all need to work together on this. It is our responsibility and duty to ensure the future of our rivers. We can make a/the difference.

Come aboard - we need your help.

Verygood piece by the Director. Along with being good company, I have always enjoyed my time next to rivers with Simon. The Trust seem to have all the right people in all the right places, especially so now with the new President. I just hope that the Chairman stays on...and on...and on...

The final couple of paragraphs say it all for me:

"Over the next couple of years, a greater burden will fall on the members of this charity and on the mundane yet vital activities — talks and dinners, raffles and auctions — that keep volunteers involved and finances in the black. Meanwhile, subsidised by this dedicated minority, anglers at large will continue to spend huge sums on fishing without a second thought.

The fact that such criticisms can be made is deeply depressing. Angling is a billion-pound-plus a year activity. For a couple of pounds a year apiece its disciples could, over time, already have transformed the future not only for their quarry, but for their sport. Yet always they have looked away. It is time they lifted their eyes and started paying their rightful dues."

Sadly... many people are completely myopic, and the thinking of others is just completely all at sea:
